DUBAI – Disciplinary rulings have shaken the Asia Cup 2025, as both India and Pakistan saw players sanctioned after their high-voltage clashes.

India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav was fined 30 percent of his match fee for political remarks, while Pakistan’s Haris Rauf faced an identical penalty for abusive language. Opener Sahibzada Farhan received a warning over his celebration.

Suryakumar sanctioned

Tournament organisers confirmed on Friday that Suryakumar’s comments following India’s group-stage win over Pakistan drew a complaint from the Pakistan Cricket Board. The Indian skipper had dedicated the September 14 victory to his country’s armed forces and victims of a terror attack, a gesture deemed political and in breach of the ICC code of conduct. Though pleading not guilty, Suryakumar accepted the fine and was advised to avoid similar statements for the remainder of the competition.

Pakistan players punished

The ICC also sanctioned Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan following their Super Fours defeat to India in Dubai. Rauf was fined 30 percent of his match fee for using abusive language during the tense chase, while Farhan was officially warned for his gun-shot celebration after reaching a half-century in the first innings.

Media reports highlighted multiple flashpoints, including Rauf’s verbal exchanges with Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, alongside his animated reaction after dismissing Sanju Samson. The Board of Control for Cricket in India also lodged a complaint with the ICC and match referee Andy Pycroft, urging strict action against both players.

Asia Cup final

India and Pakistan will clash again in the Asia Cup 2025 Final in Dubai on Sunday. This is the first time these two cricketing giants are meeting in an Asia Cup final.
